How much to change the spark plugs?

It is necessary to highlight several factors on which it depends, after how many kilometers to change the spark plugs.

  • recommendations for replacement in the manual of the car;
  • type of candles;
  • engine design;
  • operating conditions of the car, or rather the quality of the gasoline poured.

Only by combining all four of these factors, you can draw conclusions about the frequency of replacement candles. For the vast majority of cars in the middle segment (in-line arrangement of cylinders), the service life of candles is prescribed - 30 thousand km. These are usually copper or nickel candles. In some cases, these recommendations amount to 60 thousand km, and for AvtoVAZ products the most suitable mileage is 10-20 thousand km.

For more serious cars (with a V- or W-shaped arrangement of cylinders), the working mileage for candles (iridium or platinum is often used here) is 60-100 thousand km, since replacing them is an order of magnitude more complicated and more expensive than inline engines.

Candle quality diagnostics

To be sure that the candles are in order, or, conversely, to determine that they need replacement, spend from time to time (for example, in spring and autumn) to inspect them. If black carbon appeared on the electrode, then it's time to change. Also, the urge to replace can serve as a cracked ceramic insulator, an increased gap between the electrodes, a decrease in engine power, the "troenie" of the engine.
