Basic definition of knitwear
The word “knitwear” came to us from French. Literally translated, it means “knit.” This value speaks for itself: knitwear is a textile material, which is a product or canvas, which is knitted from threads using a knitting machine or manually. It should be noted that knitwear is referred to as a knitted fabric, as well as individual products from this material.
The structure of knitwear is made by loops, which are interconnected. This is its main difference from the fabric, since the latter is formed by the interweaving of the warp and weft, which are system threads.
Knitted fabric is a material with a flexible structure,in which the threads and yarn are bent in the process of knitting and have a spatial arrangement in a complex shape. Its main link can be considered a loop, which, in turn, consists of a connecting broach and a skeleton. Horizontally arranged loops form the basis of looped rows, and vertically - looped columns. In addition to the loops, the structure of the knitted material may contain links of various shapes connecting other ones that reduce the elasticity or form a pile.
Materials for the manufacture and the main properties of knitwear
The properties of the knitted material may vary depending on the type of fiber that is included. By production of knitted cloths various types are applied. It can be silk, cotton, synthetic or wool fibers with different thickness, which are used in pure form.
But most often in the production of using their combinations and combinations. Often, elastane is also added to the knitted fabric. Jersey, depending on the fibers that make up it, is usually divided into homogeneous and mixed. Homogeneous includes only one type of raw material, while mixed implies a combination of different types.
The latter type is by far more popular today, since it largely improves the consumer properties of the material. The main ones include the following:
- tensile properties;
- crush resistance;
- attractive appearance.
